Writing for MediaElites

Periodically, MediaElites.com adds to our roster of contributors. Want to be considered? Sure you do. But can you? Will you? Should you?

Let’s take those one by one, like Obama does. First, can you? That depends. There are certain requirements. Are you funny and/or incisive? Do you have a news sensibility? Can you make someone click on a post without immediately wishing they hadn’t? If the answer is yes, read on.

Will you?
We have no idea. But everything happens for a reason. Or doesn’t happen for…no reason.

Should you?
As with so many things in life, there are pros and cons.

Among the “pros,” there is, foremost, glory (read, attention). Nothing wrong with that. Also, creative fulfillment. This is thought to be a very important prerequisite in achieving true happiness. Finally, maybe, money. MediaElites pays contributors based on a revenue share. You write a post and get a few thousand page views, that’s a couple bucks from an ad network that you and MediaElites.com will divvy up. Write a bunch of posts, build up a following, and baby, it’s sunshine and daffodils as far as the eye can see.

Cons: You’re tired. You don’t know what to write about. It might be some kind of a scam.

You’re still there? Wow, okay. Send an email to blog@mediaelites.com, and include the following information:

• An outline of your column idea, or an idea of what beat you’d like to focus on. In general, MediaElites seeks to cover recent goings-on in the following broad content areas: culture, politics, tech, celebrity, sports, style, business and random crap. Where do you fit in? What’s your area of expertise?
• Two sample posts (no more, no less).
• Something about yourself, i.e, your background, your dreams and why you think you’d be a great addition to the site.
• Links to other published work.
